Plan It Right — Make It an Overnight Trip
Most Austin anglers drive down Friday night, fish Saturday morning, and head back Sunday. When the Austin heat breaks and the Hill Country starts to cool down, the Laguna Madre lights up. Fall redfish are aggressive, the flounder migration peaks in November, and the weather on South Padre Island stays mild well into December. Whether you're planning a Thanksgiving week trip, a Christmas getaway, or just a long weekend change of scenery — the Lower Laguna Madre delivers.
Fall (Oct–Nov)
Bull redfish, flounder migration, trout
Thanksgiving Week

What You'll Catch on the Laguna Madre
The Lower Laguna Madre is one of the most productive inshore fisheries in Texas — shallow, hypersaline flats that produce trophy fish year-round.
Redfish
The signature fish of the Laguna Madre. Slot reds on the shallow flats year-round — fall brings bull reds and some of the best action of the season.
Speckled Trout
Trophy trout in fall and winter, active fish on the grass flats spring through fall. The Laguna Madre is one of the top trout fisheries in Texas.
Flounder
The fall migration peaks in November — one of the most reliable flounder fisheries on the Texas coast. A great target for overnight trip planning.
Black Drum
Big bulls arrive in December and stay through February. A perfect species for winter and holiday-season trips from Austin.
